The Do’s and Don’ts of an Inspiring Meeting Room

Search for the term “meeting room” on Google Images and you’ll see a lot of long, square tables, harsh fluorescent lighting, and clean walls with a smart screen dominating the results.

However, such dull meeting rooms do not do justice to your discussions. The location of your meeting does matter. Why? Read to find out. We’ll list a few do’s for creating an inspiring meeting room!

Add some color to your meeting room

No one has ever become creative, inventive, or productive in an overly clean meeting room. On the other hand, a meeting room that creates a cozy, homely atmosphere does inspire ideas. Make your meeting room as cozy as your home office and opt for a comfortable seating area, a strong coffee maker, and walls with an inspiring color or quote. Need color advice? Orange stimulates creativity and makes us more active. Green and blue, on the other hand, radiate calmness, while red keeps people alert. What’s your favorite color?

Plants provide oxygen

Plants have a positive effect on our mood. We not only feel this intuitively, but it’s also scientifically proven. A green environment purifies the air, enhances concentration, reduces stress, and – strange but true – also reduces noise. No room for that urban jungle? Then a moss wall might be your tailored solution.

Light it up

Bring in as much natural daylight as possible. Sunlight helps the production of endorphins and gives you energy, making you automatically more productive. Also, opt for artificial lighting that creates the right atmosphere. If the light intensity is too low, you’ll feel sluggish and sleepy. Bright light, on the other hand, makes your meeting room clinical and uninviting.

Make it hybride

Hybrid meetings have become a staple of our professional lives, and for good reason. They offer a solution to bring both remote workers and in-office colleagues to the same table. However, the success of this combination of online and in-person meetings depends on having the right technology. Stable internet, quality microphones, speakers, cameras, and screens are essential for the meeting room of the future. Discover more tips on how to make your hybrid meeting a success.

The knights of the…

Round table. Encourage interaction by choosing a round or oval table. This way, you keep everyone’s line of sight clear and enable eye contact, regardless of their location at the (digital) table.

Flexibility is key!

Alternate between a “classic” meeting room and quiet workspaces that promote concentration. Don’t be afraid to color outside the lines to encourage collaboration and discussion. Think about creating a casual seating area for weekly status updates, high tables near a whiteboard for inspiring brainstorming sessions, small meeting points for video conferencing, a lounge area for informal meetings… This way, you can create a versatile workspace for any type of meeting.

Do you have a second, enclosed space for private calls at your meeting location? Bonus points! Show it off and advertise it in your listing.

PS: Have you heard of the phone booth and meeting booth?

These smart office solutions allow you to make uninterrupted (online) calls or have one-on-one meetings without disturbing other colleagues or taking up a full meeting room.
